Student Performance: Faust 'n' Roll - Rock Theatre After Goethe — Freilichtbühne Prerow, Prerow
Description was written before the event

"FAUST 'n' Roll" was created based on an idea by Michael Manthey, managing director of the renowned Manthey Rocco Pera GmbH, and of course from the verses of Johann Wolfgang Goethe. "FAUST 'n' Roll - Rock Theatre After Goethe" is a touring theatre production with a live band, also regularly performed on the Brocken as "FAUST on the Brocken - Rock Theatre After Goethe".

The Faust story spans centuries. Johann Wolfgang Goethe's "Faust" is a universe of German poetic art and leaves ample room for modernity.

The plot of "FAUST 'n' Roll" draws heavily from the fantastical world of "steampunk", which is skillfully woven into the story and gestures of the characters. Steampunk is a role-playing genre featuring an alternative reality to our world of combustion engines and electrical technology. Set in the late 19th and early 20th century, it seems frozen in the age of steam machines: everything runs on steam, on crude mechanics, reflected in the recurring motif of gears. People wear technically modified Victorian-era fashion - top hats, corsets, and tailcoats are style-defining. The same applies to the protagonists of "FAUST 'n' Roll", who feel at home in these wonderful costumes. Just as the play with time periods creates wonderful jumps through Goethe's inherited world of roles, the costumes themselves enable these transitions. Digital stage design amplifies the effect of the performance, helps eliminate the need for pyrotechnics, and skillfully blends multimedia effects with real ones - giving each scene special depth. Two LED walls, which can be combined into one depending on the scene, serve as backdrop and structural pillars of the stage design.

The actors of "FAUST 'n' Roll" are without exception professionals in the musical theatre business, and the stage musicians are highly qualified specialists.
