Im Spiegelsaal — Hans Otto Theater / Reithalle, Potsdam

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? In the mirror hall of the digital world, images of the beautiful are reflected endlessly - and we are all caught in the middle. But how have ideas of beauty evolved over the last 2,000 years, and how have beauty ideals been shaped by society?

Through figures such as Kylie Jenner, Marilyn Monroe, Empress Sissi, Snow White's stepmother, and the biblical Rachel and Leah, the production approaches these questions - and raises new ones: Why do mirror images take on a life of their own? Who looks back at us from the mirror, and why do we want to be like HER or HIM, but above all like someone else entirely? And why does physical beauty have this unsettling tendency to fade?

The production is based on the work of Swedish graphic novelist Liv Strömquist, whose graphic novels tackle sociological and philosophical ideas with wit, intelligence, and provocation. Jana Findeklee and Joki Tewes bring this non-fiction comic to the stage in their directorial debut, blending visual invention with playful imagination.
