About 20 years after the events of the first film, Andrea "Andy" Sachs (Anne Hathaway) and Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt) have long gone their separate ways. Emily is hugely successful as a manager at a luxury brand, commanding dizzying advertising budgets. Miranda Priestley (Meryl Streep), on the other hand, is fighting for survival: her print fashion magazine "Runway" is losing readers fast in the internet age, and little remains of its former glory.

Fate brings the three women back together nonetheless - and art director Nigel (Stanley Tucci) is naturally along for the ride when the New York fashion circus kicks off again.
