Albrechtsburg Meissen

Meissen, Germany

About the venue

Albrechtsburg Meissen is a late-Gothic castle rising above the Elbe river, widely regarded as one of the earliest purpose-built residential palaces in the German-speaking world. Construction began in 1471 under the Wettin margraves, and the architect Arnold von Westfalen created its distinctive vaulted halls. From 1710 to 1864 the building housed the first European porcelain manufactory before Meissen porcelain production moved to its current site. Today the castle hosts concerts, exhibitions and seasonal events within its historic rooms.
