Burg Grünwald is a medieval castle on a hill above the Isar river, south of Munich. Built in the 13th century, it served as a Wittelsbach residence and later as a state prison. Today the castle houses the Roman and early medieval collection of the Bavarian State Archaeological Collection, and its courtyard hosts open-air events in summer.
