Cuvillies-Theater

Munich, Germany

About the venue

The Cuvilliés-Theater is a jewel of rococo architecture, built in the 1750s by court architect François de Cuvilliés inside the Munich Residenz. Its ornate four-tiered auditorium, richly decorated with gilded carvings, survived World War II only because the interior fittings were removed and stored beforehand. Mozart's Idomeneo had its world premiere here in 1781.
