The Cuvilliéstheater is one of the finest surviving rococo court theatres in the world, built in the 1750s to designs by François de Cuvilliés the Elder for the Wittelsbach court. Nestled within the Munich Residenz complex, it seats around 500 and hosts opera, theatre and concerts. Its ornate gilded interior was dismantled and stored during World War II, which is why it survived intact.
