Hambacher Schloss is a hilltop castle near Neustadt an der Weinstraße, widely regarded as a symbol of German democracy. In May 1832 it was the site of the Hambach Festival, when around 30,000 people gathered here to demand civil liberties and national unity. Today the restored castle hosts exhibitions on its political history as well as concerts, lectures and public events.
