St. Maria im Kapitol is one of Cologne's oldest and most significant Romanesque churches, built in the 11th century on the site of a Roman temple. It is renowned for its remarkable carved wooden doors from around 1065, among the oldest surviving examples of Romanesque woodcarving in Germany. The church hosts concerts and cultural events alongside regular services.
