About the venue

The Tränenpalast ("Palace of Tears") is a historic border crossing hall at Berlin's Friedrichstraße station, built in 1962. During the division of Germany, it served as the departure point where East and West Germans said their goodbyes — giving the building its emotional nickname. Today it houses a permanent exhibition on everyday life during the German division, run by the Haus der Geschichte foundation, and also hosts cultural events and concerts.
