August Strindberg (1849–1912) was a Swedish playwright, novelist and painter, widely regarded as one of the most important figures in world drama. His work spans naturalist and expressionist styles, with Miss Julie and The Father among his best-known plays. Strindberg had a profound influence on 20th-century theatre.
