Francesca Woodman (1958–1981) was an American photographer and performance artist whose black-and-white work explores the female body, identity, and disappearance. Her images, in which the body merges with its surroundings or blurs into motion, are considered landmark works of 20th-century conceptual photography. She died at the age of 22.
