José Carreras is a Spanish tenor born in Barcelona and one of the most celebrated opera singers of the 20th century. He is renowned for his interpretations of Verdi and Puccini roles, and together with Luciano Pavarotti and Plácido Domingo he formed the iconic Three Tenors. After overcoming leukaemia in 1988, he returned to the stage and has been active in charitable work ever since.
