Ambrose Akinmusire Quartet [18:30]

Trumpeter and composer Ambrose Akinmusire will perform at Klub Jassmine twice. Over 15 years of his career, he has occupied a place both at the centre of the jazz scene and at its edges - recently also exploring classical music and hip-hop. His compositions draw from various genres and personal experiences, and his work has earned critical acclaim and support from institutions such as the Doris Duke Foundation and Kennedy Center.

Born in Oakland, California, Akinmusire embarked on a European concert tour at age 19 - discovered by saxophonist Steve Coleman. He studied at Manhattan School of Music and University of Southern California under the guidance of, among others, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. In 2007, he won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition.

His latest album, Honey From a Winter Stone (January 17, 2025), was created in collaboration with vocalist-improviser Kokayi, pianist Sam Harris, synthesist Chiquitamagic, drummer Justin Brown, and the Mivos string quartet.
