Thematic Walk: Mokre, a Village with Factories and a Tram

On April 1, 1906, Mokre was incorporated into Torun - and it was no joke. Well, actually it was: a piece of the settlement. The village had 12,000 residents, while Torun itself had fewer than 30,000 at the time.

Mokre was famous for its gardens, but the chimneys of the region's largest iron foundries also smoked here, along with one of the largest mills in Pomerania. A factory also operated here that in the 1920s was Poland's largest pasta manufacturer. Just before its incorporation into Torun, the village had its own gas works, water supply, and an electric tram running along the main streets - amenities that many county towns could only dream of.

The walk will proceed along Lipowa Street - Mokre's main street, which in 1920 became Kościuszki Street.
