An author meeting with Marek Węcowski dedicated to his book "Homer for Our Times" (Znak Literanova, July 2024) - a work that was quickly reprinted following its release. The conversation will focus on what we seek in Homer today and what we find in him: what the epics composed nearly three thousand years ago tell us about our contemporary world, violence, heroism, and human suffering.

Who was Homer and did he even exist? For centuries, philologists, romantic nationalists, and psychiatrists working with war veterans have debated this question. Węcowski guides us through this labyrinth of questions and interpretations, showing how the Iliad and the Odyssey have accompanied people through pivotal moments in history - from Mickiewicz and Tolstoy to soldiers of modern wars.

Marek Węcowski - scholar of ancient Greece, professor at the Faculty of History of the University of Warsaw. Author of, among other works, "Here is Greece! Antiquity for Our Times", "Symposium, or Shared Drinking. The Origins of the Greek Aristocratic Banquet" and "The Prisoner's Dilemma. Ostracism in Athens and Its Roots".

Piotr Śliwiński - historian and literary critic, professor at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, head of the Department of Poetics and Literary Criticism, curator of the Poznań Poetry Festival.
