LIQUID SHADOWS Concert - The Great Return After 24 Years!
Kościan Cultural Centre, Poland
Liquid Shadows was formed in 2001 as an acoustic duo - compositions by Marek Smelkowski (guitar, vocals, lyrics) and Dawid Szmatula (keyboards). Soon brothers Paweł and Szymon Hemmerling (bass guitar and drums) joined the project, completing the full lineup.
In 2002 the band officially launched, and after months of rehearsals recorded their debut album "It's all about her eyes" (2003) at Maciej Brzezinski's studio in Śmigł. Backing vocals were performed by Marta Hemmerling. The premiere took place at the Kościań Cultural Centre with two concerts: an open performance in the main hall and an intimate show for special guests. The album sold over 1,500 copies. The band won first prize at the Interfestival in Leszno and received an award and audience prize at the Music Store festival in Poznań. In 2006 their second album "Thread of innocence" was released, recorded in collaboration with Radio Eska producer Dawid Mizgalski. Both albums received positive reviews and praise from, among others, Wojtek Pilichowski and Wojtek Szadkowski of the band Collage. After the drummer's departure, the band suspended its activities. In 2014 they returned with the single "My Space" - Bartek Czerniachowski took over drums, known for his work with Grzegorz Hyżym and Agnieszka Chylińska. Over the following years Marek, Paweł and Dawid performed alongside Natalia Kukulska, Bibobitu, Mezo, Kasia Wilk, Andrzej Krzywy, Rudi Schubert, Millenium and Krzysztof Lepiarczyk.
Now the band returns after 24 years with the lineup: Marek Smelkowski (guitar, vocals), Dawid Szmatula (keyboards, looper), Paweł Hemmerling (bass), Igor Smelkowski (guitar), Jakub Szwarc (drums) and special guest Łukasz Kulczak (guitar) - guitarist of the band Lombard. The setlist will feature material from both albums, and Łukasz Kulczak will lead a special solo section with songs from his latest album.
