From the series: Tatra. Part II: CHLAPOVKI-ZAKOPANE by Andrzej Strug
Teatr im. Stanisława Ignacego Witkiewicza, Zakopane, Poland
"A Great Day: Chronicle of Events That Never Happened" by Andrzej Strug was serialized in "Kurier Poranny" in 1926 and published in full only in 1957. Like the earlier "Zakopanoptikon," it stands out in the writer's legacy for its brilliant humor, grotesque social scenes, and situational freedom paired with a penetrating diagnosis of power mechanisms and social action - all set against the disguised backdrop of interwar Zakopane.
The production "Chlapovki - Zakopane" premiered on February 23, 2008 at the Witkacy Stage. In 2014, the theatre company won the Grand Prize and the Talia Statuette at the XVIII National Comedy Festival TALIA in Tarnów. The jury justified the award with these words: "For style. For staying true to themselves. For making the language of cabaret, in their brilliant execution, the language of Theatre." Actor Andrzej Bienias received the acting award for his magnetism and power in this production.
The performance incorporates song texts by Jan Brzechwa, Marian Hemar, and Stanisław Porębski, as well as poems by Ignacy Rojewski.
