Exhibition "The World as a Herbarium. Nature in Art from the 17th to the 21st Century"

"The World as a Herbarium. Nature in Art from the 17th to the 21st Century" is an exhibition spanning more than four centuries of artistic creation, in which nature is the protagonist, witness to history, and a starting point for reflection on the contemporary climate crisis. The castle galleries bring together works by old masters alongside contemporary art, European painting with Japanese art, classical herbals and botanical illustrations with graphics, sculptures, installations, and works created specifically for this exhibition.

The exhibition features botanical illustrations by Maria Sibylla Merian and Elizabeth Blackwell, works by Wojciech Weiss, Jan Stanisławski, Julian Fałata, and Stanisław Wyspiański, the Japanese phenomenon of kachō-ga by Watanabe Seitei, as well as creations by contemporary artists engaging in dialogue with the challenges of the Anthropocene.
