Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz WAHAZAR

A production of S. I. Witkiewicz's drama "Gyubal Wahazar, or On the Passes of Nonsense" directed by Andrzej St. Dziuk poses three questions. The first concerns the power of false prophets: why do we so readily allow ourselves to be imprisoned by fictions and illusions, accepting suffering and manipulation in the name of longing for a better life? The second addresses the role of women: in the system of Prophet Gyubal Wahazar, women are forcibly transformed into "female creatures," and the new order of "educating girls" demands the isolation of the child from her mother. The third asks: who are we in human history? Puppets? And this is a question about immortality. As throughout Witkacy's entire body of work, here too arise questions about Truth, Faith, and the meaning of struggling with History - and above all, the question of the Mystery of Existence.

The production is dedicated to the theatre ensemble and all friends of the theatre - in the words of director Andrzej St. Dziuk.
