How to Cry in Public Places - 50th Performance
Teatr Osterwy - Mała scena, Lublin, Poland
If you're wondering whether you should see a psychiatrist, you probably should. Does it surprise you that famous comedians often suffer from depression? I'm more surprised that not everyone with depression becomes a comedian. We've learned to make people laugh by telling stories about toxic loved ones and past traumas: we carefully calibrate our jokes so we don't cross the line where laughter turns into pity. Then we spend years perfecting this routine: at school, at work, in bars and trains and in other people's beds.
Emilia Dłużewska
A performance based on Emilia Dłużewska's bestselling book. Directors Mira Mańka, Kamila Janik and Beata Passini bring to the stage the story of a thirty-year-old woman balancing between two extremes: depression and mania. A tale of a crumbling life, the search for meaning, and the emancipation of emotions that the protagonist couldn't name before.
The performance blends comedy and stand-up, using laughter and distance as a way to talk about mental health.
Recommended for audiences aged 15 and above.
Due to the stage layout, latecomers will not be admitted to the auditorium - please arrive a few minutes early. The Small Stage is located on the second floor (stairs only, no lift).
