Confessions of a Hypochondriac
Zakątek Wyobraźni, Reda, Poland
Does a minor headache mean something serious? Are three symptoms found online already a diagnosis? Can you sleep peacefully after reading a medical forum at 2:30 in the morning? The performance "Confessions of a Hypochondriac" - a new production by Theatre Form - answers these and many other utterly "irrational" questions.
The monodrama tells the story of a woman convinced she is dying, who decides to put her life, emotions, and the healthcare system in order. Wrapped in a red blanket like a superhero's cape, armed with a thermometer, she guides the audience through an intimate encounter that feels like a stand-up routine, a confession, and a reading of a patient's medical file all at once. It's a tale of flu, loyalty to sick leave, unavailable doctors, handsome pharmacists, and the absurdities of the healthcare system.
The script and direction are by Karol Formela, a creator who balances between visual arts and theatre. Monika Płomin plays the Hypochondriac. Theatre Form, active for five years at the intersection of experimental theatre, performance, and movement, this time turns to a monodrama full of humour, distance, and everyday absurdities.
The evening promises a series of hilarious situations, nervous diagnoses, and highly suspicious consultations with Doctor Terlikowski.
