The "UNIKO" project was originally created on commission for the Kronos Quartet and combines the natural sound of strings with electronic samples, an electroacoustic accordion, and voice. The music is built on strong contrasts – from monumental, almost orchestral explosions to intimate, hushed passages. Inspiration came from Finnish nature, climate change, political tensions, war, and the everyday reality of the contemporary world.
Improvisation is a key element of the concert – both in Pohjonen's own parts and in selected passages performed by the orchestra, making each performance unique.
