Thematic Walk: Old Toruń and the City's Origins and Secrets of the Timber Port

Sat, 13 Jun 2026 · 10:00

Centrum Sztuki Współczesnej „Znaki Czasu”, Toruń

A walk dedicated to the origins of Toruń and the history of the Timber Port. The route passes through sites connected with the Crusaders' crossing of the Vistula, the location of Old Toruń, and archaeological excavations at the site of the city's original settlement. Along the way, themes related to the Artus Court and Belgian motorways will also emerge.

The route goes through bushes, ravines, fallen trees, and arable land — sturdy hiking boots and appropriate outdoor clothing are required. It is recommended to bring tick repellent.

Start from the bus stop at the beginning of Starotoruńska Street (immediately after exiting the Toruń–Bydgoszcz route). Accessible by bus line no. 40 (arriving at Starotoruńska at 9:52) or line 131 to a nearby stop (from which you must cross to the other side of the Toruń–Przysiek route). Capacity limit: 40.

The walk is led by Marcin Orłowski — a historian by passion, marketer by training, author of, among other works, the guidebook Spacerownik toruński po czasie i przestrzeni. Stare Miasto w chwilach rozpaczy i nadziei 1939–1948, co-author of Słownika biograficznego opozycji w PRL 1956–1989 and a series of mini-guides to Toruń. Co-founder of the Skyway Light Festival in Toruń, awarded the "Pro Memoria" medal for efforts to preserve historical monuments.
