Kujawski Ansambl was founded on the initiative of Wojciech Jachny and Marcin Karnowski as a musical narrative about Annie Jachnina – a radio editor and documentarian of folk culture from Bydgoszcz, and privately the grandmother of Wojciech Jachny. Since the 1950s, she traveled to the field, recording singers, musicians, and ensembles, and from the collected voices prepared hundreds of radio broadcasts.
Based on these materials, the ensemble created "The Story of Annie Jachnina" – an album that is simultaneously a radio drama and an improvised session. Old songs and dances from Kujavia, Pałuki, and Kashubia, along with their accompanying stories, are treated as open forms, ready for imagination and the creation of fresh sonic relationships.
In the ensemble's sound, the delicate pulse of a percussion plate leads a matte trumpet and contemplative violins, while the double bass balances between jazz and folk functions.
