Vigüela is an ensemble from the province of Toledo, located in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula. The group emerged after decades of nationalist rule under Francisco Franco, during which traditional music was severed from local contexts, forced into polished stage forms, and exploited by state propaganda. After 1975, young artists began reclaiming it for themselves.

The microcosm of Vigüela is El Carpio de Tajo, a small village in Toledo province. Since the 1980s, the group's members have listened intently to its local musical language, drawing it from archives, family stories, and the memory of the oldest singers. Behind their work lies solid research: careful tracing of old vocal mannerisms and guitar techniques.

Seguidilla holds an important place in the ensemble's repertoire, built on a fast triple rhythm in which the voice enters with a sudden cry and develops verses in ornate, flowing phrases. Alongside it comes fandango, crafted with refinement from sparse verses. Castanets, hand-clapping, and dance respond to these forms, with fluid movement interwoven with sudden stops of the body.
