Evil
Centrum Kultury w Lublinie, Lublin
"Evil" is an autobiographical account by Dariusz Jeż — a man who, before stepping onto the theatre stage, was a significant figure in Lublin's underworld. The titular protagonist served several years in prison for criminal activity, and an encounter with art transformed his life. Today he is an actor.
The performance guides viewers through the transformations that unfold in the life of a former gangster during Poland's period of political transformation. Audiences witness how, alongside the transition from communism to democracy, the protagonist's attitude toward the world shifts — from childlike innocence and a conscience that compels him to atone for the harm he has caused, to callousness and cold calculation.
Direction: Łukasz Witt-Michałowski; screenplay: Dariusz Jeż, Grzegorz Kondrasiuk; cast: Przemysław Buksiński, Dariusz Jeż, Jarosław Tomica; set design: Dariusz Jeż; graphic design: Lech Mazurek.
