ZAMEK ROZMAWIA#12 | "Where Does Poland Lie? Our Mental Maps"
29 September (Tuesday), 18:00 | Great Hall | tickets: 7 PLN | duration: 90 minutes | age 16+
Poland's position on the map of Europe has shifted due to grand politics, but also to our own perceptions - shaped by economic relations, ideologies, stereotypes and ambitions. How do we today perceive our place in relation to the West, East, North and South? What values, fears and images do we assign to the four cardinal directions? How do literature, cinema and popular culture allow us to express our mental maps?
These questions will be discussed by participants in the twelfth meeting of the Zamek Rozmawia series: Przemysław Czapliński - historian of Polish and European literature of the 20th and 21st centuries, professor at Adam Mickiewicz University, director of the Centre for Open Humanities, laureate of the Kościelski Prize and the Kazimierz Wyka Prize; Małgorzata Praczyk - historian, associate professor at Adam Mickiewicz University, specializing in environmental history, postcolonial studies and memory research; and Ziemowit Szczerek - journalist and prose writer, laureate of the "Polityka" Passport award, contributor to "Polityka" and "Gazeta Wyborcza" among others. The meeting will be moderated by Piotr Oleksy - lecturer in Eastern European studies at Adam Mickiewicz University and analyst at the Institute of Central Europe in Lublin.
