Atanas Valkov: Piano Odyseja
Wirydarz, Lublin
Piano Odyseja is a project by Atanas Valkov – an attempt to capture the intangible and a deep exploration of the piano and its acoustic possibilities. It is not another neoclassical album, but a collision between humanity and technology, between the finite and the infinite.
Through collaboration with Mark McCaughreyan – an astronomer, founder of Space Rocks and advisor to the European Space Agency (ESA) – Valkov gained access to raw data from space missions by ESA, NASA, and JAXA. Working with the Japanese Qosmo AI Creativity & Music Lab, he employed Neutone technology (timbre transfer), which processes this data in real time using AI algorithms. During performance, the piano's sound and cosmic data engage in genuine dialogue – the instrument's timbre is dynamically transformed "on the fly," creating audio-reactive textures impossible to program in traditional ways.
Atanas Valkov is a Polish-Bulgarian composer, pianist, and producer. He is the recipient of the FMF Polish Film Score of the Year award for the series "Krol," and his work combines modern technology, film music, and ethnic traditions.
