Lakecia Benjamin

Six-time Grammy-nominated alto saxophonist, MC, and bandleader Lakecia Benjamin is renowned for her captivating live performances. Her critically acclaimed albums Phoenix and Pursuance: The Coltranes have established her as one of the most important figures in contemporary jazz, earning recognition from outlets such as The New York Times, The Guardian, and DownBeat.

The album Phoenix earned her three Grammy nominations and a nomination for the NAACP Image Award in the Outstanding Jazz Album category. Benjamin has also been honoured with the title of Alto Saxophonist of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association and Jazz Scholar by the U.S. Library of Congress, and her career continues to gain momentum.

In 2024, the album Phoenix Reimagined (Live) was released by Ropeadope, recorded with musicians including John Scofield, Randy Brecker, and Jeff "Tain" Watts. The artist presented the material on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, among other venues, and her debut in the NPR Tiny Desk series received enthusiastic critical acclaim. Phoenix Reimagined also received two Grammy nominations.

In 2025, her original composition Noble Rise was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Jazz Performance category. In June 2026, her first album for ARTWORK Records will be released, marking a new chapter in her artistic journey—with the first singles coming soon.
