Ryna – a woman in her forties with a taste for alcohol – returns from German Darmstadt to the Belarusian countryside to bury her elderly grandmother, reconnect with her own life, and find her roots. Or perhaps something more? Belarus is a country where one can live an entire life in a single village, yet experience the collapse of several states, countless rulers, and accumulate experiences as if living a double life – one's own and that of a 102-year-old grandmother. Marshes, love, folk magic, wars, and an instinctive sense of being "at home" amid the whirlwind of timelessness and chaos.
This is a multilingual experiment – a woman's story interwoven with the history of all Eastern Europe, where hyperrealism and absurdity are part of everyday life. A blend of horror and poignancy that will leave no one unmoved.
