Cleo Reed

Cleo Reed (born Ella Josephine Julia Moore) is a multidisciplinary artist drawing from Black sonic traditions and a conscious intention to blend genres. Her practice encompasses composition, participatory art, instrument building, installations, and textile work. Raised in New York and Washington, she studied at Harlem School of the Arts and Berklee College of Music.

Her album CUNTRY (2025) is a double album combining folk and electronic music, exploring the theme of work and its impact on the body and life in the USA. Side A references the tradition of work songs (blues, soul, folk, country), while side B has a more dystopian, rap-electronic character. This contrast reflects the tension between Reed's New York upbringing and her family's Southern roots.

CUNTRY appeared on year-end best-album lists from Pitchfork and NPR Music, and Reed herself was named to the Dazed 100. The artist has performed on prestigious stages and festivals, and has toured with artists including BadBadNotGood and Sudan Archives.
