JAZZ PO POLSKU: Grzegorz Masłowski Quintet

As part of the JAZZ PO POLSKU "Warsaw Live Sessions" project, original concerts by leading figures of the Polish jazz scene and international guests will take place.

The Grzegorz Masłowski Quintet presents a program based on the leader's compositions and works by band members. The repertoire also includes compositions by Štěpanka Balcarová and Janusz Muniak, with whom Masłowski was a long-time collaborator.

The ensemble's sound is created by two tenor saxophones, giving the music a distinctive color and compact texture. In Muniak's composition, the musicians switch to soprano saxophones, introducing a different sonic spectrum. The concert promotes the quintet's debut album "Through the Hourglass", presenting material that defines the ensemble's current sound and artistic direction.

The ensemble's music is based on improvisation and interaction between the artists, and its form emphasizes the individual approach of each instrumentalist.

Grzegorz Masłowski is a jazz drummer and winner of numerous individual and ensemble awards at international festivals such as Getxo Jazz Festival (Spain), Jazz Juniors, and Jazz nad Odrą. He is a laureate of the "Młoda Polska 2016" program and a two-time winner of the "Andel" award for best jazz album of the year in the Czech Republic. He has collaborated with Janusz Muniak, Piotr Wojtasik, Anna Maria Jopek, Grzegorz Karnas, Marek Dyjakowski, Elchin Shirinov, Peter Bernstein, Marek Bałata, Adam Kawonczyk, Piotr Baron, Inner Spaces, Štěpanka Balcarová, Piotr Schmidt, and many others. He has performed at festivals worldwide, and his body of work includes over 20 released albums. His musicality, technique, and dedication have been recognized by the music community, and his approach to music—combined with diligence and consistency—makes him a respected sideman in many projects.
