The concert of laureates from the International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition takes place just days after the competition concludes - when emotions are still fresh and young violinists perform before the audience outside the competitive arena.
The competition's history dates back to 1935, when Adam Wieniawski - the patron's nephew - organized its first edition in Warsaw. The winner was then sixteen-year-old Ginette Neveu. After the war, the competition moved to Poznan and has been held there every five years since, with rare exceptions.
Among past laureates are David Oistrakh, Wanda Wilkomirska and Oleg Krysa, and from the younger generation: Alena Baeva, Agata Szymczewska, Bomsori Kim and Veriko Tchumburidze. For many of them, the competition was one of the first steps toward an international concert career.
