PHARAOH
Municipal House of Culture in Koło, Poland
Bolesław Prus's story unfolds over three thousand years ago, yet remains relevant - human nature does not change. The struggle for power between high priest Herhor and young prince Ramesses is also a clash of two visions of rule: the calculated maneuvering between dangerous neighbours favoured by the clergy, and the desire for conquest and making Egypt great again - the ambition of the heir to the throne.
On one side, priests accumulating immeasurable treasures; on the other, Ramesses's efforts to seize them for the state and its ruler. Cynicism grounded in knowledge and experience versus dreams tinged with youthful naivety. Who will win this struggle? Which side will the common people support?
The production is staged as a musical - with music, singing, dance, and scenography.
