Paweł Kowalski
A pianist with a repertoire spanning over forty works for piano and orchestra - from Mozart and Chopin to Panufnik, Kilar and Górecki. He also performs solo recitals, chamber music, film scores and jazz. He was the first performer after Krystian Zimerman to play Witold Lutosławski's Piano Concerto, which he premiered in Warsaw under the composer's direction.
He studied in Cologne, Warsaw and Vancouver (Witold Lutosławski scholarship). He has performed in over 40 countries - in all Polish philharmonic halls and at Salle Pleyel in Paris, Konzerthaus in Berlin, Tonhalle in Zurich and Salon Dorado in Buenos Aires. He participated in the BBC Polish Season festivals in London, Europalia International Arts Festival in Brussels and Izmir Festival, as well as Mozart Festivals in Warsaw and Gdańsk. He performed with the Sinfonia Varsovia orchestra under Yehudi Menuhin and radio orchestras in Berlin, Oslo, Zagreb, Katowice and Warsaw. He recorded albums with music by Chopin, Beethoven, Brahms, Zarębski and Panufnik.
In recent seasons he has performed with Reinhard Goebel in Mozart's piano concertos, given recitals at Chopin festivals in Duszniki, Antonin, Paris and Geneva, and at the Luxembourg Philharmonic. He has performed at the KONEX festival in Buenos Aires, as well as in Ottawa, Bogotá, Lima and Ankara. With the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife he performed Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major, and with NOSPR under Jerzy Maksymiuk - Wojciech Kilar's Piano Concerto No. 1.
He has served on the jury of six piano competitions and is a commentator for the Chopin Competition for TVP.
