Kartuskie Centrum Kultury, Kartuzy, Poland
Jan Konop BIG BAND "Let's Return Like in the Old Days" is a concert dedicated to Polish music from the interwar period - the hits of the 1920s and 1930s that were sung throughout Poland. The vocal part is performed by Joanna Knitter, a vocalist from the Tri-City area, with the full lineup of the Jan Konop Big Band orchestra.
The orchestra was founded in 2009 in Gdańsk on the initiative of Tri-City musicians - graduates and students of jazz departments at music academies in Gdańsk, Katowice, Wrocław, Poznań, and Łódź. Led by Jan Konop, a trombonist and conductor, the ensemble has previously collaborated with many soloists and vocalists, including Jan "Ptaszyn" Wróblewski, Jarosław Śmietan, Wojciech Karolak, Adam Czerwiński, Ewa Bem, Krystyna Prońko, Ewa Uryga, and Grażyna Łobaszewska. The orchestra's achievements include Grand Prix at the XV International Music Festival Česká Kamenice 2014, Grand Prix at the 16th Big Band Festival in Nowy Tomyśl (2011), first prize at the IV Big Band Festival in Bydgoszcz (2010), and individual awards for "Best Soloist" for Paweł Niewiadomski and Jakub Hajdun. In 2015, the orchestra qualified for the final of the 21st International Big Band Competition in Hoofddorp (Netherlands).
