KinoMuzeum | From Lascaux Paintings to Contemporary Murals | Lecture by Aga Lesiewicz | URBAN ART AREA 6 — KINOMUZEUM, Warsaw

Why do we paint on walls? The urge to leave our mark on walls has accompanied humanity for thousands of years - what is this impulse from a neurological, evolutionary, and ethical perspective?

Aga Lesiewicz, a writer who combines neuroaesthetics research with literary practice, will guide listeners from prehistoric handprints through the brain's reward mechanisms to the ethical tensions surrounding art created without consent in public space. The lecture's central thesis: street art is the last bastion of the uncontrolled image. It weaves together scientific perspective with personal insight and voices from artists in Warsaw, Berlin, San Francisco, Buenos Aires, and Melbourne.

Aga Lesiewicz - writer and screenwriter, author of three crime novels (Rebound, Exposure, What Have You Done, Zoe Bloom?) published in the UK and translated into French and English. Previously worked in television as a director, promo producer, and screenwriter. She explores the relationship between art and literature, with particular focus on the psychology of visual perception. Member of British Art Network, curator of the Ways of Looking programme at Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'art contemporain, and leads international writing workshops in London, Tuscany, and Luxembourg. Education: MA in English Philology (University of Warsaw), MPhil in English Literature (Lancaster University).

The lecture is part of the Urban Art Academy educational programme accompanying the Urban Art Area 6 exhibition. Film screenings and lectures from the Urban Art Academy series take place at KinoMuzeum at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. Free admission, limited seating.
