This screening is a companion event to the EASA2026 conference - "Anthropology: Possibilities in a Polarised World", organized by the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA). This year's edition takes place in Poznań for the first time and is being prepared by staff and doctoral students from the Institute of Anthropology and Ethnology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.
During the evening, two anthropological films selected by the EASA2026 conference jury will be shown in their original language versions with Polish and English subtitles.
Katwe

In the Ugandan city on the shores of the salt lake Katwe, an abandoned factory has stood for forty years, while successive political promises to lift residents out of poverty remain unfulfilled. Income from salt extraction disappears into networks of corruption and middlemen, and the daily lives of residents are marked by economic uncertainty, political pressure, and deep religiosity.
Against the backdrop of the region's colonial exploitation history, the film creates a multi-voiced portrait of the salt lake workers' community. At the heart of the story is Abooki - a woman who single-handedly supports three daughters, whose every day is a struggle for survival. In times of deepening economic crisis, the value of life is measured by the amount of salt that can be extracted and sold.
Song of Aida

As a teenager, Aida dreamed of a career as a model and singer. Today, in her thirties, she lives in an arranged marriage within the Roma community in Bari, struggles with depression, and yearns to reclaim her agency - dreaming of returning to Romania where she could start a new life.
