Aleksander Fredro (1793–1876) was a Polish playwright, poet, and writer, widely regarded as the greatest Polish comedy writer. His plays, such as Zemsta (Revenge) and Ladies and Hussars, remain staples of Polish theatre repertoire. He wrote in the spirit of classicism and Romanticism, and his comedies are celebrated for their wit and vivid characters.
