Anne-Sophie Mutter is a German violinist born in 1963 in Rheinfelden, Baden-Württemberg, who made her concert debut at 13 under Herbert von Karajan at the 1976 Lucerne Festival. Over nearly five decades she has recorded more than 50 albums - mostly for Deutsche Grammophon - won four Grammy Awards, and given world premieres of over 31 works written for her by composers including Lutosławski, Penderecki, John Williams and Thomas Adès. She also runs the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation, which has supported young string players since 1997.
