Anneke van Giersbergen (born 8 March 1973, Sint-Michielsgestel) is a Dutch singer, songwriter, guitarist and pianist who rose to international prominence as the lead vocalist of The Gathering from 1994 to 2007, shaping the band's landmark albums Mandylion (1995) and Nighttime Birds (1997). After leaving the group she built a prolific solo career - first as Agua de Annique, then under her own name - spanning rock, folk, acoustic pop and progressive metal, and collaborated extensively with Devin Townsend, Arjen Lucassen's Ayreon, Within Temptation and many others. In 2019 she received the Buma ROCKS! Export Award as one of the most prominent Dutch artists in heavy music abroad. Her current project is the trilogy album La Vie, La Mort, L'Amour, released in instalments from 2025.
The Gathering's reunited Mandylion lineup announced a final anniversary concert on 16 January 2027 at AFAS Live in Amsterdam, closing a worldwide tour of around 29 shows.
The second EP of her trilogy, 'La Mort', was released on 27 March 2026, with a special vinyl edition following on Record Store Day (18 April).
