About

Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) was a Venetian composer, virtuoso violinist and ordained priest whose output reshaped Baroque instrumental music across Europe. He wrote over 500 concertos, more than 50 operas and a large body of sacred music, much of it composed for the all-female ensemble of Venice's Ospedale della Pietà. His cycle of four violin concertos known as The Four Seasons (1725) became one of the most performed and streamed works in the entire classical repertoire, and his influence on the concerto form was so far-reaching that J. S. Bach transcribed several of his works.
