About

Avishai Cohen (born 1970, Kibbutz Kabri, Israel) is a double bassist, composer, and singer whose playing weaves together post-bop jazz, Sephardic folk, Latin rhythms, and classical influences into a sound that is immediately his own. He rose to prominence in the late 1990s as a member of Chick Corea's ensembles Origin and the Chick Corea New Trio, then built a prolific solo career spanning more than 20 albums on his own Razdaz Recordz label. DownBeat called him "a jazz visionary of global proportions"; in 2023 he received the Miles Davis Award at the Montreal Jazz Festival, and in November 2024 the French Ministry of Culture elevated him to Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters.
