Carminho (born Maria do Carmo Carvalho Rebelo de Andrade, Lisbon, 1984) is a Portuguese fado singer who grew up in a household shaped by the genre - her mother, Teresa Siqueira, was a celebrated fadista. She made her public debut at twelve at the Coliseu dos Recreios, but waited until 2009 to release her first album, spending the intervening years studying marketing and travelling on humanitarian missions. Her debut, "Fado", went platinum and was named best album of 2011 by the British magazine Songlines; since then she has built one of the most international careers in fado, performing at venues from the Elbphilharmonie to sold-out halls in Brazil and the US, and appearing in Yorgos Lanthimos's Oscar-nominated film "Poor Things" (2023).
Carminho released her seventh studio album "Eu Vou Morrer de Amor ou Resistir" on October 10, 2025, via Sony Music Portugal, with eight of eleven tracks written by her.
Carminho toured the US in October 2025 in support of the new album, with dates in San Francisco, Vancouver, New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia.
Carminho performed an NPR Tiny Desk Concert in Washington, DC in January 2025, drawing on material from "Portuguesa", "Maria", and the EP "Carminho at Electrical Audio".
Carminho released the EP "Carminho at Electrical Audio" in 2024, recorded in a single day in Chicago with the late producer Steve Albini.
Carminho received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Portuguese Language Roots Album at the 24th Annual Latin Grammy Awards for her album "Portuguesa".
