Christoph Waltz (born 4 October 1956 in Vienna) is an Austrian, German and American actor who spent three decades in European television and theatre before Quentin Tarantino cast him as SS Colonel Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds (2009) - a role that earned him the Cannes Best Actor prize, two BAFTAs, two Golden Globes and two Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor (the second for Django Unchained, 2012). He has since played Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the James Bond films Spectre and No Time to Die, and continues to work across film and prestige television.
Waltz appeared at the 82nd Venice Film Festival for the premiere of Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, in which he plays Henrich Harlander.
Only Murders in the Building season 5 premiered on Hulu on 9 September 2025, with Waltz in the recurring role of Bash Steed, an AI tycoon and murder suspect.
Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein was released on Netflix on 7 November 2025, earning an 85% Tomatometer score and a 94% audience score.
The 2025 action thriller Old Guy, led by Waltz and Lucy Liu, reached No. 7 on Paramount+'s top movies chart in the United States.
Waltz received the Icon Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival on 17 October 2024, in recognition of his career spanning half a century.
