Christoph Willibald Gluck (1714-1787) was a composer who fundamentally reformed opera in the 18th century, prioritizing dramatic truth over vocal display. He worked mainly in Vienna and Paris. His opera Orfeo ed Euridice (1762) marks a turning point between the Baroque and Classical eras and remains his most performed work.
