The Comedian Harmonists were a Berlin-based all-male close harmony ensemble active from 1927 to 1934, comprising five singers and pianist Erwin Bootz. Founded by Harry Frommermann and inspired by the American group The Revelers, they blended jazz, cabaret, and popular song into a style that made them one of the most successful acts in interwar Europe - selling millions of records and filling concert halls across the continent. Three of the six members were Jewish, and in March 1934 the Nazi regime banned them from performing together; the group split, with the Jewish members emigrating and continuing under the name Comedy Harmonists. Their story inspired a 1997 German film and Barry Manilow's Broadway musical *Harmony* (2023-2024).
