About

Die Dreigroschenoper (The Threepenny Opera) is a play by Bertolt Brecht with music by Kurt Weill, first performed in Berlin in 1928. It draws on John Gay's The Beggar's Opera and became one of the most widely staged works in German-language theatre. The show is best known for the Moritat von Mackie Messer and its sharp satirical take on bourgeois society.
