Die kleine Meerjungfrau (The Little Mermaid) is a fairy tale by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, first published in 1837. It tells the story of a young mermaid who gives up her voice in exchange for human legs in order to be with the prince she loves. It is one of the most widely known and frequently adapted fairy tales in world literature.
